On her second apostolic journey, around the year 48, Saint Paul visited Iconium accompanied by Barnaba. It is a city of Asia Minor that today is part of Turkey. Upon entering the city, she is courteously and kindly invited by Onesiphorus to stay at her house. The doors are open to anyone who wants to hear the proclamation of the Gospel. People come to the house. But, apart from those who meet, someone else listens to the Word. New doctrines are proposed that are unprecedented and exciting as continence and resurrection.
In front of this meeting point, a noble and rich family has its home. There lives Thecla with his eighteen years. She is the beautiful and marriageable daughter who is fascinated by what comes to her from the preaching of the Apostle. Her mother is restless and extremely upset because she only lives to listen to what is being said in the house opposite; he has seen her as in ecstasy, absent ... she does not even eat, day and night she is without blinking nailed in the window, she does not lose detail. It ends by communicating to Thamyris, Thecla's boyfriend, his concern. All the family efforts have been combined to make her desist from her attitude and all the arguments are vain when trying to make the young woman forget what she is listening to. She has taken the resolution to abandon her comfortable life and her future marriage plans, she just wants to follow Jesus of whom Paul speaks.

Among friends first and among acquaintances afterwards, word of mouth goes around running the news of what happens to Thecla for listening to that preacher about a resurrected Jew. The upper class of the city is moved to take the decision to accuse Paul to the authorities for witchcraft and spells.

Paul is imprisoned and Thecla, bribing the jailer, goes crazy with joy in prison and listens for hours and hours to the greatness of God, sitting on the floor next to the prisoner's irons. Paul was cruelly scourged and punished with exile. The delicate love of Thamyris now turns into despair and hatred against who was his beloved and a bonfire is prepared where Thecla is going to be punished. It is miraculously saved from the flames and march of Iconium after that man who inflames with the ardor of what he preaches. She herself is transmitting to everyone the reason for her way of life, which is love.

When she was very old Thecla was swallowed by the earth.

En su segundo viaje apostólico, hacia el año 48, San Pablo visita Iconio acompañado de Bernabé. Es una ciudad de Asia Menor que hoy forma parte de Turquía.

Al entrar en la ciudad es invitado cortés y amablemente por Onesíforo a hospedarse en su casa.

Las puertas están abiertas a quien quiera escuchar el anuncio del Evangelio. A la casa van acudiendo las gentes. Pero, aparte de los que se reúnen, alguien más escucha la Palabra. Se proponen doctrinas nuevas que resultan inauditas y apasionantes como la continencia y la resurrección.

Frente a ese punto de encuentro tiene su hogar una familia noble y rica. Allí vive Tecla con sus dieciocho años. Es la hija bellísima y casadera que se embelesa con lo que le llega de la predicación del Apóstol. Su madre está inquieta y sumamente molesta porque sólo vive para escuchar lo que se está diciendo en la casa de enfrente; la ha visto como en éxtasis, ausente... ni siquiera come, día y noche está sin pestañear clavada en la ventana, no pierde detalle. Termina por comunicar a Tamiris, novio de Tecla, su preocupación. Todos los esfuerzos familiares se han aunado para hacerla desistir de su actitud y todos los razonamientos resultan vanos a la hora de intentar que la joven se olvide de lo que está escuchando. Ella ha tomado la resolución de abandonar su vida cómoda y sus planes de futuro matrimonio, sólo quiere seguir a Jesús de quien Pablo habla.

Entre los amigos primero y entre conocidos después va de boca en boca corriendo la noticia de lo que pasa a Tecla por escuchar a ese predicador acerca de un judío resucitado. La clase alta de la ciudad se conmueve hasta tomarse la resolución de acusar a Pablo a las autoridades por brujería y hechizos.

Pablo es encarcelado y Tecla, sobornando al carcelero, entra loca de alegría en la cárcel y escucha horas y horas las grandezas de Dios, sentada en el suelo junto a los hierros del preso. Pablo fue azotado cruelmente y penado con el destierro. El delicado amor de Tamiris se trueca ahora en desesperación y odio contra quien fue su amada y se prepara una hoguera donde Tecla va a ser castigada. Es salvada milagrosamente de las llamas y marcha de Iconio tras aquel hombre que inflama con el ardor de lo que predica. Ella misma va transmitiendo a todos el porqué de su modo de vivir, que es el amor.

Muy anciana ya Tecla es tragada por la tierra.
